A month of real food school lunches for my kid!

We do eat real food at home, hearty breakfast, home cooked lunch and dinner both with leftovers when is the case. So when my DS1 started reception, the challenge was on!! Now I had to pack 2 lunches, for my DH and DS1. Got serious about it and just did it.

We leave in UK so the cost of getting a Planetbox or even a Lunchbots was too much so we had to do with what we could find. Systema has really cute lunchboxes, just the right size for the little munchkins, more or less how much the Japanese bentos recommend, around 350ml for reception age, 4 to 5 years olds.

My son had a seizure fit from a undiscovered infection the spring same year and for being sick all the time he lost a lot of height, barely on top of the underweight line so that worried me a lot. Search what I could do about it and stumbled upon Mark’sdailyapple and realized that some twitching will have to be done, that is put my son on a paleo diet so that it reduces its inflammation int he body and help put on weight healthily.

Note: My kids do not eat a strict low carb paleo because a child needs its carbs but all his lunches are gluten-free, sugar-free, healthy home cooked, sometimes with rice but most of the time is brought back and rarely with some beans or occasional cornbread.

Note: the school has a NO NUTS rule, so we don’t pack nuts.

I wanted to get in charge of his eating pattern and so I documented his school lunches for the past year so I will put them here on a monthly basis so it might help other mums out there living in the UK and not only.

Here are 4 weeks (20) of his real food school lunches. Most of the time I give him leftovers from the night before. All of his lunches (including the leftover meats) are packaged with an icepack and served cold. He is use to eating this way, actually he would not eat hot or warm food until is slightly cold. Also you may notice that the lunchboxes do not have any eggs, that’s because we have, every single morning, eggs for breakfast, scrambled, poached, fried, boiled, you name it and DS1 asks for 3 eggs, so no more eggs for the rest of the day.

I apologize for the occasional blurry image, you see, all the images are taken in the morning just before the lunch is packed so no styling involved, just the real deal. 😉 Let me know if you have any questions.

Enjoy!
